The Historical and the Most Powerful Alampur Jogulamba Temple - G Krishnakumar

The temple of Jogulamba is situated in the town of Alampur in the Mahbubnagar district of Andhra Pradesh. It is one of the Ashtadasa Sakthi Peethams (18 holy abodes of Mother Goddess) which is one of the famous spiritual places in the state.

The word "Jogulamba" is derived from "Joginula Amma" (Mother of Joginis). Jogini (also called as Yogini) means a female person, who has given up all the earthly attachments. Jogini also has another meaning, which implies a dancer (female) whose life is dedicated to God. Hence, the goddess is also known as Yogulamba or Yogamba.

In India there are 18 Shakti peethas, Alampuram Jogulamba temple is 5th Shakti peetha where Upper jaw with Teeth of Maa Sati Devi fell, which very powerful shrine located in Telangana state. This shrine houses Lord Shiva as Bala Brahmeswara Swamy on the bank of river Krishna tributary Tungabhadra. 

The Jogamba or Yogamba (Jogulamba) temple is present at the union of two sacred Hindu rivers Krishna and Tungabhadra. It is a popular tourism destination in Telangana. Here Goddess Jogulamba is seen seated on the Corpse with scorpion, frog, and lizard on the head.

Many devotees consider Alamapur as Dakshina Kailasam (Dakshina Kasi) or Sangama Kshetram present on the left bank of holy Tungabhadra river.

Alampur temple is surrounded by beautiful Nallamala hills and is mentioned in the sacred Skanda Purana. 

Located about 220 Kms from Hyderabad, this temple in Alampur is easily accessible through Hyderabad - Bangalore Highway. A four-hour of pleasant drive will take you to this historical temple.

The temple is open during 7am–1pm, 2–8:30pm on all days.


Legend of Jogulamba Devi Shaktipeeth

After Daksha yagna, Sati devi burned herself, in her self-set fire (Chidagni), then lord Shiva took her body and started Vilaya Thanvam(dance form of lord Shiva). Then lord Vishnu with his Sudarshan Chakram, has cut Sati Devi body into parts, where these fell in India and around called as Astadasa Shakti peethas, This is where goddess upper teeth(Oordva Danta pankthi) fell. This is 5th Shakti peeth.

According to another legend lord Brahma did penance here for lord Shiva. Then lord Shiva appeared and gave Brahma a boon ,the power of creation. On his name lord Shiva self manifested, as Bala Brahmeswara Swamy.

Jogulamba is considered as "Gruha Chandi" (protector of our homes).
